What Better Book to Turn to For Baby Names?
The Bible is filled with prolific figures and important lessons to be learned—but it’s also an excellent place for baby names! Join us as we go through some of our favorite choices for all those bouncing baby boys.
1. Aaron
A name with Hebrew origins, Aaron translates into “mountain of strength.” It remains one of the most popular boy names and has topped charts with parents since the 1970s. As far as biblical choices go, you can’t go wrong with this one.
2. Adam
We all recognize this classic name—though we might want to put his past behind him when crowning our sons with it. We’ve used it (quite literally) since the dawn of time, and it’s translated to mean “man” or “humankind.”
3. Benjamin
We hope you don’t have a hierarchy with your sons, but scripture indicates that Benjamin was Jacob’s second favorite. The name, however, remains a top pick with parents and translates to “son of the right hand.”
4. Caleb
If you need a name that both honors faith and translates to it, look no further than Caleb. His name literally means “whole” or “faithful” in Hebrew and Caleb is often remembered as a man of incredible faith in the Bible.
5. Cyrus
Cyrus plays a big part in the Hebrew Bible and the name is still widely considered by expecting parents. It actually has Persian roots, and though its meaning is debatable, many attribute it to mean “sun” or even “lord.”
6. Daniel
While three Daniels show up in the Bible, the most prominent figure is that of a wise prophet known for his visions and righteousness. Knowing that, it’s hard to turn your back on the name that translates to “God is my judge.”
7. David
Are you looking for a name that really shows your newborn how beloved he is? How about one that translates to the very word? Known as a king of ancient Israel in the Bible and “beloved” in Hebrew, the name is a great classic choice.
8. Elijah
It’s pretty cool to name your son after the prophet who called down fire from heaven! In Hebrew, the name roughly translates to “Yahweh is my God,” and it’s still a popular choice among today’s parents—it actually ranks in the top 20 names chosen.
9. Emmanuel
Not only has this been a sought-after name since the ‘90s, but it also holds a special meaning: “God is with us.” It may not rank as high as other options on this list but it’s still a wonderful choice that honors both your bundle of joy and your faith.
10. Gabriel
As one of the archangels, Gabriel’s known as God’s messenger. His name roughly translates to “God is my strength” in Hebrew, making this a solid option for anyone in need of a strong, beloved choice. You’d be in good company too; Gabriel often appears on popular baby names charts in the United States!
11. Hosea
Hosea was once a favored name in the early 1900s—though its popularity dwindled, we’re still fans of this traditional choice. Hosea means “salvation” in Hebrew and the name belonged to a pretty important prophet in the Bible, so don’t be so quick to ignore this one.
12. Isaac
A newborn already brings plenty of joy and laughter to our lives, but this name really seals the deal! In Hebrew it translates to “laugh” and we can’t think of a better way to honor our little bundle of joy.
13. Jacob
Jacob may not have the strongest meaning behind it (the name translates to “to follow” or “to supplant”), but it’s been a well-loved choice since the ‘80s. It also comes with plenty of nicknames, making it a more versatile option too!

14. Joseph
When it comes to popular names, Joseph has topped the charts since the early 1900s. It’s easy to see why: it’s a classic choice that means “God will add,” comes with many nicknames, and reminds those of multiple prolific figures in the Bible.
15. Luke
You can’t go wrong with a man who wrote one of the Gospels. Luke is a play on Lucius (meaning “light”) or Lucas (meaning “bringer of light”) and has been a favored choice since the 2000s. It may not climb the charts as fast as other names, but it’s an instantly recognizable favorite.
16. Matthew
Not only was Matthew one of the twelve apostles, but his name roughly translates to “gift of God” in Hebrew—and it’s hard to get better than that. Its popularity has cooled off since the ‘80s and ‘90s, but that doesn’t make this any less feasible.
17. Michael
Michael: powerful archangel, bringer of justice, protector of the people. His name is as notable as his presence in the Bible, and new parents often keep this option in their back pocket. If you need another nudge toward the name, it translates to “who is like God” in Hebrew.
18. Noah
Even those who aren’t religious recognize Noah—the man entrusted by God to build an ark and save our precious animals. It’s been a wildly popular choice since the ‘90s and can be roughly translated to “rest” or “repose” in Hebrew.
19. Peter
If you’re looking for a strong biblical name, might we interest you in Peter, the name that literally translates to “rock” or “stone”? It might sound strange to name your child after the man who denied Christ, but Peter was also a compassionate apostle and reminds us that we can always make amends.
20. Simon
There’s a reason Simon remains a top choice for new parents! The name roughly translates to “he has heard” or “listen” and the figure himself is often touted as the man who helped Jesus carry his cross. It’s a name associated with kindness and attentiveness.
